Yesterday, on the floor of the Senate, I commiserated on behalf of our great and peace loving people with the Nigerian Military, the families and the country at large over the brutal killing of Officers and Men of the Nigerian Army who were on a Peace Mission at Okuama Community, Delta State. As I said, it is indeed a great national tragedy.
I urge all people of goodwill to join in condemning in very strong term this dastardly act and also mourn with the families of the slain officers and soldiers.
I emphasized the need for professionalism by the military in conducting its operations aimed at arresting the perpetrators. This is based on the need to safeguard innocent residents in the affected communities.
It is also important to note that no community in the Niger Delta is against the military and their personnel.
Hoodlums and miscreants terrorising communities often brutalize, maim, rape and kill their own people for several reasons, same way they kill security agents alike.
It is therefore pertinent for the various security agencies to go after the criminals and their sponsors and bring them to book to serve as deterrent.
